• Palin does not support stem cell research believing that
embryonic stem cell research results in the destruction of life
thus conflicting with her pro-life position.

• Sarah Palin voiced her opposition to human embryonic
stem cell research in an interview with Charles Gibson of ABC
news, even though a McCain campaign radio advertisement had let
out that a McCain government would be for stem cell research.

• Palin however is for all kinds of the different adult
stem cell research approaches. In Palin's interview with Gibson
she stated, "My personal opinion is we should not create human
life, create an embryo and then destroy it for research. And,
thankfully again, there are other options, like, as I mentioned,
the adult stem research."

• When questioned about the reversal of Roe v Wade by the
Los Angeles Times, she answered that "I think it should, and I
think that states should be able to decide that issue. I am pro-
life. I do respect other people's opinion on this also, and I
think that a culture of life is best for America. What I would
like to do, when elected vice President, with John Mc Cain,
hopefully,[is]to be able to reach out and work with those who are
on the other side of this issue."

?• Obama is of the opinion that stem cell research has
great possibilities which will be of enormous help in the
diagnosis and treatment of several distressing illnesses.

• His goal is to make America the number one country in
the stem cell research field. He has proclaimed that "we will
vigorously support scientists who pursue this research and will
aim for America to lead the world in discoveries it one day may
yield." These were his words while he signed an order to lift an
eight year old prohibition on embryonic stem cell research.

• He stands for expansion of the number of stem cell lines
available for research and wants to make sure that the ethical
standards will be adhered to in the matter of stem cell
research.

• Obama had also issued a law in Illinois State which is
to ascertain that only the embryos which become surplus should be
used in embryonic stem cell research and the donors should give a
written consent donating their embryos for further research.

• Obama has strictly prohibited human cloning and remarked
that "we will develop strict guidelines, which we will rigorously
enforce, because we cannot ever tolerate misuse or abuse."

• Obama has given his word to the nation that they will
never undertake this research lightly. He quoted that "We will
support it only when it is both scientifically worthy and
responsibly conducted."
