• Sarah Palin is rather worried about China's bid to try
and manage Alaska gasline. "An energy-thirsty Communist nation
controlling Alaska's natural gas reserves was not in the best
interest of the state or our country."
• While Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin signed House Bill
34 that permits holders of a winery license to ship five gallons
of wine within the state of Alaska. This she said will help small
wineries to contend with those in the business outside the state
through internet, mail and fax orders.
• Sarah Palin has requested the US bureau of Customs and
Border Protection to withdraw the proposed law that could hurt
the tourism industry in Alaska.
• Palin stated, "I am a conservative Republican, a firm
believer in free market capitalism. A free market system allows
all parties to compete, which ensures the best and most
competitive project emerges, and ensures a fair, democratic
process." From the Campaign Booklet 'New Energy for Alaska.'
• Sarah Palin supports government subsidy for farmers.
• "Education helps trade, too. International courses at
our schools and universities help us excel in international
markets." Letter from Governor Palin on Alaska state trade

• Supports NAFTA and free trade with Mexico, calling for a
"strong market of the Americas."
• In 2006, as governor of Arkansas, he signed an agreement
for increased commerce between Arkansas and South Korea.
• When asked by FOX news whether he would go ahead with a
different version of the North American Free Trade Agreement, he
replied that free trade agreements were great to have and that he
definitely agreed with NAFTA and CAFTA, but it should be ensured
that the agreements were followed by both parties, which was not
happening.
• He said that the financial crisis is national security
threat as a country can be free only if it can feed, fuel and
fight for itself.
• Huckabee stated that he does not support the NAFTA
Superhighway that is currently being built from Mexico to Canada
which when completed will have certain parts under foreign
management.
• In his book 'From Hope to Higher Ground' Huckabee said,
"I believe in free trade and allowing the marketplace to push
innovative ideas to the top and prices to the bottom."
• He stated that giving good business to farmers in
America was also good for the consumer, because the principle
behind subsidies was that production will continue at a higher
level as a result of which cost of food will be lowered. He said
that subsidies would also help to safeguard the farmers from
natural disasters and hassles due to rise in prices of fuel, feed
and fertilizers.
